TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Melksham go top after Boomsbury win (From This Is Wiltshire)

STEVE Burns' Melksham Town Reserves are the new leaders of the Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories-sponsored Trowbridge League first division after their 2-0 victory over the previously-unbeaten Boomsbury in what was a thoroughly entertaining contest in tricky conditions at the Conigre.

The game was their first-ever meeting in the league but the sides had met three times previously in cup matches with Melksham leading the head to heads 2-1.

After a goalless first half Melksham finally got the breakthrough with Emilio Menghini scoring the all-important opener for the hosts.

Boomsbury had chances before and after Menghini had hit the target, but they were unable to take any of them and they paid the price when Danny Griffiths wrapped up victory for Melksham with their second and killer goal 10 minutes from time.

Castle Combe 3 Westbury United Reserves 5

WETSBURY United Reserves travelled to Castle Combe for what was their first game in four weeks and the White Horse men had a successful return to action as they came from two goals down to claim a 5-3 success over a Combe side who are rooted firmly to the bottom of the pile.

Goals from Josh Shaw and Carl Dawson gave Combe their two-goal advantage before a Westbury side who have made an unbeaten start to the campaign started their fight back. Tarick Yachou reduced the arrears and Marc Lanfear got the visitors on level terms before the break.

Kierron Kiff put Westbury in front and George Wheeler with a little help from the unfortunate Alan Farnish made it 4-2 and the game was put to bed when Yachou, who had started the Westbury revival, scored his second of the afternoon to make it 5-2.

Farnish made amends for his own goal when he scored a third for Combe, but it was a case of too little as Phil Alford’s side had already done enough to bag maximum points.

North Bradley 4 Bradford United 2

VETERAN striker Micky Spong rolled back the years in a virtuoso centre forward display as Paul Ranger's North Bradley overcame a spirited Bradford United and claim a 4-2 victory in a committed battle on a soft Peace Memorial ground.

While Bradford settled the better of the two sides, Bradley threatened their opponents goal more often, with the pace of Mike Johnson and Sam Weston on the wings looking dangerous as they linked up with Spong up front.

It was Weston's ball into the box that ended up at the feet of Spong who placed the ball into the right corner of the net despite the keeper getting a hand to it. Soon after Spong struck again from further out into the opposite corner for 2-0.

Bradford, for whom Nick Gerrish and Jamie Parlour where particularly good, kept applying pressure, but Bradley always looked like adding to their tally, and did so again before half time with Weston tapping home after Ranger had crossed.

Bradford did however gain a foothold in the match when Phil Little smashed the ball in after a scramble in the box.

There was still time for the returning Mike Little to miss a sitter for the hosts before the half time whistle went.

The second half saw Bradford test Bradley's mettle with increased possession and chances and keeper Kieran Powell saved well on a couple of occasions and Ryan Godridge made a number of important tackles in the heart of defence.

Their resilience paid off when substitute Harry Butler's shot was tapped in by Little. Bradford still refused to let the game go and brought it back to 4-2 with a header from Tom Bouquet but it proved to be too little too late.

Semington Magpies 3 Warminster Town Reserves 5

WARMINSTER Town Reserves overturned a 2-1 deficit at Semington Magpies to claim a 5-3 victory over their hosts which earned them they first-ever win in the division since gaining promotion at the end of last term.

Warminster led early on courtesy of a 20 yard strike from Tyrone Pollard whose effort went in off the post.

Ricky King squared things up when he scrambled the ball home from eight yards following a corner and Adam Bailey put Semington 2-1 up with the goal of the game and probably the season when he scored from 30 yards with a thunderbolt that gave the visitors keeper no chance.

Warminster manager Andy McFarren changed things around at the break and introduced Mark Bailey for his misfiring forwards. The change reaped instant rewards as Bailey restored parity for his side.

A second from Pollard saw Warminster regain the lead and the inspirational Bailey added a fourth.

Substitute Matthew Gee made it 5-2 and with both Cameron Allardice and James Collett running the show for Warminster they were now well on top.

But it was Semington who had the final say in the goal fest when Chris Arnold set up Kelvin Lockwood who tapped in to make the final score 5-3 but by then the game was already over for the home side.
