SWIMMING: CHRIS Jones jets off to the United States to compete in the event that earned him a place in the Scottish Commonwealth team earlier this year.

Jones, 24, will fly out to Atlanta, where he will be joined by his Scottish teammates before taking the onward flight to Indianapolis to compete in the US Open.

This will arguably be the biggest test of his career to date with some of the world's biggest stars on show including multiple world record holder Michael Phelps, Aaron Peirsol and Ryan Lochte.

Last year, Jones claimed bronze in the 100 metres breaststroke and silver in the medley relay, but the circumstances this season are completely different with Jones having not tapered for this event.

On Friday, Jones may get the nod to swim the breaststroke leg in the medley relay, which will see the Dolphin star race alongside Michael Phelps' home team, Club Wolverine of Michigan.

Jones will also benefit from seeing how top American athletes prepare in the warm-up routines and how they execute their race skills - an experience he hopes to bring home and pass on to his fellow teammates.

n After a nailbiting finish Swindon finished second by just a single point in their Winter League gala at Trowbridge.

Aaron Kerrigan put in some very strong performances in the boys open as did his brother Laurence at under 15.

The girls had a tougher night which still saw excellent results. The under 17 girls were the best performers with good wins in the breaststroke and frontcrawl relays. Elle Christmas put in some great swims in both U17 and open age groups. Tracey Sharland was in good form in the open.

The U13 and U15 girls had some good results against fierce competition with Hollie Blunt, Alex Rigby and Sophie Edwards having outstanding swims.
