CORSHAM captain Michael Coles showed his top order how it should be done as his half-century helped Corsham on their way to a 53 run win over Taunton St Andrews.

The skipper called for his top order to take more responsibility last week after the lower order contributed heavily on the opening day at Frocester.

Rich Foley, Neetan Chouhan, Thomas Hankins and Roger Sillence were all dismissed for a combined 58 against Taunton, but Coles and Neil Shardlow stepped in to get Corsham back on track.

Coles said:"Our overseas player (Chouhan) has come in and got a decent delivery so he was a bit unlucky.

"Hanks got a decent ball and the only disappointing one was Sillo in terms of his shot selection.

"We made a point of stating before the game that we needed to bat as long as we possibly could.

"I wanted to try and lead by example and in that sense I did okay. I got a good delivery to get me out but probably at that stage I probably should have looked to get more than I did."

Corsham were all out for 191 in the 44th over, meaning Taunton received extra overs in their innings.

Coles said Taunton having added overs to reach the total ended up playing to his team's advantage.

Coles said: "It was strange because they got our extra overs to get the runs which sometimes means you don't approach it in the normal way. They were in two minds and I don't think they were playing their normal game.

"If they had that target in front of them and only had 45 overs, they probably would have approached it a lot differently and been a bit more attacking, but as it was they weren't really going for it.

"They are obviously experienced, quality players but thankfully for us we bowled pretty tight.

"Jason Searle bowled really well for his four wickets and Alex Senneck as well. It took us 56 overs to get the last wicket and we needed the extra overs to come out with a win."
