Peering through the windows of Cinnamon, we were glad we hadn't missed it in its snug little position on the High Street in Corsham.
The cosy little Grade II Listed building is home to a restaurant by night and coffee shop during the day, and is easy to miss among the estate agents and shops. It has an excellent reputation and all its tables were filled within an hour of opening on Saturday evening.
The warm lighting of candles and subtle decor gave a homely feel and the cinnamon sticks inlaid in the tables are a unique touch.
There were a variety of olives and sunflower seeds to nibble on our table, while we decided what to have from the mouth-watering menu.
Despite the restaurant being packed, the friendly waitresses managed our orders with ease. After ordering our drinks, we were given a basket of delicious homemade bread.
This was to accompany Frankie's tomato and basil soup (£4.25), which was fresh and tangy and tasted like it had been made only moments ago. For my starter I chose baked mozzarella in parma ham with a delicious basil dressing (£5.25). Both were excellent.
For our main meal I had enjoyed chicken breast stuffed with spinach and mozzarella (£15.50) while Frankie went for duck with apricots, caramelised onions and orange sauce (£15) – quite an adventurous choice for him. However he said it was delicious, the best meal he had had in a long time.
Our main meal was accompanied by fresh courgettes, carrots, red cabbage, broccoli and potatoes in a delicious creamy cheese sauce. It was food heaven.
For dessert I chose timbalt of strawberries, meringue and vanilla ice cream, (£6.50) which looked as delicious as it tasted, with the creamy ice cream complementing the tartness of the strawberries and fluffy texture of the meringue.
Frankie chose chocolate heaven with a fondue that came with marshmallows, fruit, fudge and biscuits (£6). The sugary, sweet flavours from the fruit, fudge and biscuits worked well with the cocoa-rich chocolate.
To round off, I enjoyed chai tea with honey, one of my favourite drinks.
Cinnamon gave me the best atmosphere and restaurant meal I have had since moving to Wiltshire last March.
The bill, including drinks, came to £58.25
