AFTERNOON tea at Oxford’s Randolph Hotel – it’s one of those quintessentially British things that everyone should do.

Delicate cucumber sandwiches (crusts cut off, of course), melt-in-your-mouth meringues oozing with cream and freshly baked scones smothered in jam . . . Mmm, who needs stunning architecture, culture and history when a city has such culinary attractions to offer?

But now you can combine food and sightseeing in a British Break offer from Macdonald hotels. And what’s more, they will even throw in a box of Thorntons chocolates in case your sweet tooth needs even more satisfaction.

Macdonald Hotels and Resorts group – which features 40 four and five-star properties in the UK, including Oxford’s finest, The Randolph – has teamed up with Thorntons to create a special break for those looking for a British weekend away.

Take time out with a luxurious two-night stay, including English breakfast on both mornings and an afternoon tea for two in your chosen hotel. Everyone booking this offer will also receive a 330g box of Thorntons new Classics chocolates, due to be launched in stores in August.

Guests can also take full advantage of the Macdonald Hotel’s leisure facilities which include gyms, pools, hydro pools, rock saunas and ice fountains.

This offer only runs between August 1 and November 30, 2010, and prices start from £44 per person, per night, depending in the hotel, although weekend and upgrade supplements apply. Up to two children under 12 can stay and eat breakfast for free when sharing with two adults, subject to a suitable room being available.

To book or find out more, go to www.Macdonald Hotels.co.uk.

Meanwhile, look out for a competition running in Thorntons stores, where you can win weekend breaks, a year’s supply of Thornton’s chocolates (52 boxes!) or a tour of the Thornton’s factory.
