James Roose-Evans’ stage adaptation of Helene Hanff’s book, 84 Charing Cross Road, will be staged by The Western Players at The Arts Centre in Old Town, Swindon, on March 10 to 13, nightly at 7.30pm. The cast of eleven is directed by Edna Reeves.
The play focuses on a real-life 20 year friendship, through correspondence, between a New York writer Helene Hanff and the staff of a small book shop in Charing Cross Road, London. Helene discovered a soulmate in Frank Doel, the manager, who relished her commission to find the old English books for which she yearned. As Helene and Frank kept up their correspondence, everyone hoped she might finally make the transatlantic trip to London.
Tickets £6 (£5 concessions) are available from 07575 711522 or via e-mail BoxOffice@westernplayers.co.uk.
