THE third Cloth Road Arts Week, which celebrates the work of local artists, gets under way tomorrow.

ELISA Amor makes sculptures out of the things most of us casually throw away in the bin.

She takes old plastic milk bottles and drinking cups and cuts into them with a scalpel, creating flowers from a template and then turning the materials into sculptures.

The 24-year-old is one of the artists taking part in the 2008 Cloth Road Arts Week, beginning tomorrow and running until May 11.

She only uses throwaway materials that are discarded every day and she likes the juxtaposition of creating something natural, like a flower, from something clearly manmade, like a plastic cup.

It all began when she started covering a stepladder with paper flowers and she developed her style during a BA in Art and Design at a Bath university.

Having graduated in July 2007 Ms Amor is looking forward to displaying her work in the Pybus Studios in Bratton Road, West Ashton during the Cloth Road Arts Week.

The Hazlewood Road resident said: "I'm exhibiting some of my university work and some new work including things made from three umbrellas, milk bottles, plastic cups and textiles, which will be looking at the theme of the ocean and water."

The artist works from her parents' home in Melksham and has full support from them.

She said: "I was having a go at the plastic water butts that are used in office water coolers. The plastic is really tough so my dad bought me a soldering iron. It didn't work quite as I wanted but it's great to have his support."

The sculptures will be on sale to visitors and Ms Amor is using two part time jobs to fund her artistic career.
