Summer Youth Project auditions on May 11 at Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre

Youngsters from all over the county will be descending on Swindon tomorrow to audition for this year's Summer Youth Project.

This year's show at the Wyvern Theatre is the popular family musical Oliver, based on the novel by Charles Dickens.

The director is Swindon-born cabaret artist Rodney Howard, who has performed before such stars as Elton John.

Rodney, 28, started as vocal coach for the youth project of 1997 - My Fair Lady.

The director is gearing up to give 250 youngsters a complete taste of the disciplines involved in producing a professional theatre show.

"I want to create an experience for the children that they will always remember. And most importantly they will have fun,'' he said.

The project is pulled together in just 12 days under the guiding hand of a team of professionals, including Flick Swan who finishes her run in the West End version of Chicago on the Sunday before she comes here to start on Oliver.

The auditions are tomorrow from 9am. Youngsters should apply for forms on line at the theatre website www.wyverntheatre.org.uk or pick one up at the box office. They should wear comfortable clothing to dance in. The cost for the whole experience is £95 per child. Oliver, the full scale show, takes place from August 21 to 24. Tickets are £10 from 01793 524481.
