England made slow but steady progress on the second afternoon of the second Test after Bangladesh recorded the third-highest total in their history in the morning session.
The Tigers started the day with just two wickets in hand but added 89 to reach 419 all out, with maiden Test half-centuries from Naeem Islam and number 10 Shafiul Islam doing the damage.
It was just the seventh time Bangladesh have passed 400 in their decade as a Test-playing nation and comfortably eclipsed their highest score against England.
The tourists lost captain Alastair Cook for 21 after lunch but watchful knocks from Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen saw them to 92 for one at tea.
