It appears that even at this stage , our Mayor is unable to understand the seriousness of what he said.
He says that he used a “word” that was offensive.
No.
He made a statement that was deeply offensive.
He then denied it, prior to suggesting that there was a political agenda.
He offered to resign if he was excluded from the Standards Complaint He then voted for himself in a vote of no confidence – and was ironically given the opportunity to have the casting vote if needed.
He then remained as mayor when 58% of local people who took part in an online news poll said that he should step down whilst the complaint was investigated.
Prior to this his conduct warranted investigation due to his conduct towards an officer working in Swindon Borough Council. The complaint against him was upheld.
Better Swindon has been advised that the assessment panel again found Cllr Martin at fault - as recorded on April 2nd 2014 Cllr Martin was notified by the panel that if Cllr Martin does not provide an apology in that case, the complaint will be referred for investigation. In light of all of the above , Cllr Martin's resignation is overdue.
