I SHOULD like to thank you for your article in your On This Day column dated July 12 1947, by which you instantly energised a terrific wave of nostalgia by referring to the Fruit Pickers of Headlands Grammar School.
The trip, I recall, was organised as an exercise combining work experience, holiday and bonding and was thoroughly enjoyed by pupils and teachers alike.
We went by train, leaving Old Town station en route for Dust House Farm, Tardebigge, Worcester, to assist with picking the crop of apples and earning a little pocket money.
Was it really 67 years ago? I ask myself?
I should also like, through the courtesy of your paper to thank Mrs Evelyne Smith, nee Cook, for her superhuman efforts in organising the class of 49 Headlands Grammar School annual reunions.
