WITH the possibility of 2,600 new homes to be built at Lotmead Farm I have to ask the question, how on Earth will a possible 5,200 cars get in and out of the proposed village? Where will all of these people work? Will it be Oxford, if they are supposed to filter onto the A420?

If it’s in Swindon, I can see more congestion on the Marlborough Road than you can imagine! It is bad enough now without adding to the problem, particularly if you add the new housing at ‘Coate Village’ that will need to funnel onto that road.

Another point to consider will be whether Swindon’s sewage farm can cope with all the excess faecal matter that will need to be treated. Add on storm water to the equation and the whole system will break down.

One thing is certain; fresh water will get scarce in the future unless there is to be a reservoir at Abingdon. Get ready for hosepipe bans!
