HAVING just returned from a holiday in Dawlish Warren, may I pass comment on the old adage regarding women drivers? I decided the family and I would take the bus to Torquay.
We went to the top deck as my Westie loves to look out the window on his daddy’s knee on the buses.
The bus was packed with tourists and locals. The scenic route is mostly coastal, taking in Dawlish, Teignmouth and a spectacular crossing on the bridge over the Teign to Shaldon, then on to Torquay. It is a wonderful view showing the beauty of Devon’s coast.
It involves hairpin bends and drops of hundreds of feet into the sea, the bus windows being scraped by the branches of the trees and driving through villages with inches to spare from parked cars. I have been driving for over 50 years but quite frankly, from a driver’s point of view, it frightened the life out of me driving by car, never mind a packed double decker bus.
My point: The bus driver was a charming young ponytailed lady, I would guess in her late twenties. Sorry lads count me out, the ladies can drive as well, and in my case, better than the men.
