I AM writing to you concerning Stratton Festival held on Saturday July 19, a very enjoyable and well run occasion covering a wide spectrum of interest.

While I realise reporters and photographers have many commitments on one day I was disappointed ‘Best in Show’ was not covered, mainly from my point of view, as I won!

The dog show was run by Drove Vets and my dog won first prize in the section ‘Show Stopping Talent’. We were then invited to compete in the main ring at 5pm under a different judge where we were awarded ‘Best in Show’.

This is a memorable and overwhelming award for us, Buzz and I, as I got Buzz at one year old as a problem dog. Buzz has always been very friendly and energetic, most understood as he was bred to work. He has been hard work but we got our reward on Saturday.

The point I would like to make is he is obviously classed as a rescue or rehomed dog. There are many dogs like Buzz who end up in rescue centres through no fault of their own. There is so much publicity about troublesome dogs but very little about the good ones. Please, if you love animals, consider a rescue dog if you are willing to work, play and train the animal. You could be ‘Best in Show’. 99 per cent of dogs are marvellous – what percentage humans?
