BRITAIN'S trade deficit has doubled in two years. My area of interest is economics. I regularly monitor the trade defict.

Two years ago Britains trade deficit was 46 billion dollars a year. Britain trade defict is now 117 billion dollars a year.

The rapid deterioration is alarming. These figures have been adjusted for invisible income from banking, insurance and tourism.

This is an unsustainable import led boom. Britain was once the workshop of the world.

The only way to correct the trade deficit is to start making things again.
