I am a proud season ticket holder at Swindon Town FC and Saturday’s performance at the County Ground was the best I’ve seen since the Glenn Hoddle days. It was that good.

The Town simply outclassed Sheffield United with a scintillating display. The energy, accuracy of passing, even in tight areas, movement on and off the ball was breathtaking with great goals. It was an absolute joy to watch, played on one of the best surfaces in the country.

Mark Cooper should feel rightly proud of himself and his players. He richly deserves all the plaudits that come his way. There were concerns amongst some fans accusing the club of lack of ambition when they appointed him. But he has shown that the club was right to do so.

He has put together a team on a shoestring of a budget compared to Di Canio. The style of football we are witnessing is fantastic.

Where this season takes us, who knows. If we continue the way we are then dare I say it, but promotion could be on the horizon. In this day and age with the obscene money being bandied about in the Premier League we have to be realistic. For a club like us to be in the Championship, even for one season, would be a fantastic achievement on gates of 7,500.

The only gripe I would have is the exorbitant match day admission prices of between £23 and £27 in the main stands to watch what is still, in my eyes, 3rd division football. I have been to 81 different grounds across Europe. In Germany £23 will get you into any game in their top division.

There is no doubt we should be attracting higher gates than we are but the price of watching football at STFC, and at virtually every other club in England, is far too high, especially if you get two games in a week.

I’d like to thank the manager and the team for making my alternate Saturday afternoons something to look forward to. Let’s get to 55 points first and then see where the season takes us.
