Seven years ago, I set up the Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs with the charity Leonard Cheshire Disability to recognise the many talented, ambitious and inspiring disabled people who have set up their own businesses.

This year’s award is now open and I’m urging people to apply. There is a cash prize of £50,000 – the largest prize of its kind – which the winner can invest in their business in any way they choose.

Currently, there are around 100,000 self-employed disabled people in the UK and this award is open to anyone with a disability, as defined by the Equality Act, which includes all disabilities and long term health conditions.

People can apply before the deadline on 19 September by visiting www.leonardcheshire.org/stelios
