It was interesting to read the views of Les Fox about the abolishment of road tax discs.

I have my own views on things like this. I have an 1800cc car and pay £200 per year road tax and I use my car for journeys that are long enough for the catalytic converter to reach the correct working temperature and so increase the working efficiency and reduction of emissions.

I know of people who have a car that is of lower emission category, pay less road tax, do shorter journeys, never ever getting the catalytic converter up to the working temperature and so actually create more by way of emissions for the journeys they do.

Is that fair, I wonder? I pay more road tax than the owner of a lower emission vehicle and yet I use it more efficiently, plus the fact I am not doing any more mileage on average per year than the lower emission owner, using my car more efficiently and public transport for shorter journeys.
