Jon Ellis is quite correct to complain of the usual suspects writing boring, insulting and extremist letters to your letters page.
Several years ago I also got fed up with the lies and misinformation being written by members and supporters of the UKIP and decided to reply to their letters with accurate information.
As John writes, they descend to insults as there are no facts behind their letters. If they only wrote the truth I wouldn't have to be so prolific a writer myself.
Having said that, freedom of speech is essential in a democracy and provided a letter isn't promoting child abuse, violence or hatred against sections of society or religions, it is important that all views are heard.
