Steve Thompson challenged me to reply to his letter (SA November 4) regarding UKIP policies. A pleasure – we are not kippers Sir; we are supporters of the United Kingdom Independence Party.

A kipper is a cured herring, that's where you probably got your facts from, or perhaps you typed in red herring by mistake. Policy announcements made at the Doncaster Conference: UKIP will abolish green taxes and charges in order to reduce fuel bills. They will abolish the department of Energy and Climate Change .They will repeal the Climate Change Act which costs the British economy £18 billion a year.

I am glad to say you got something right in your letter. Just to cheer you up, UKIP will protect the Green Belt. UKIP will ensure the National Health is free at point of delivery and time of need for all our residents.

They oppose plans to charge patients for visiting their GPs. You clearly stated that UKIP were going to get rid of the National Health. They will amend working time rules to give trainee doctors, surgeons and medics the proper environment to train and practice.

You stated UKIP were going to abolish the working time directive. UKIP will increase personal allowances to the level of full time minimum wage levels, estimated next year to be £13,500 approx. You stated UKIP was going to abolish the minimum wage.

UKIP will cut the Foreign Aid budget by £9 billion, prioritising disaster relief. They will leave the EU and save at least £8 billion p.a. in net contributions, taking control of our borders. They will leave the Common Fisheries policy and reinstate British Territorial waters and withdraw from the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights and replace it with a British Bill Of Rights. They will also protect pensioners bus passes and oppose the bedroom tax.

Migrants will only be eligible for benefits in or out work if they have paid taxes and national insurance for five years. UKIP will honour the Military Covenant.

Sounds good to me.
