WHAT is going on with the traffic in and around Swindon? I commute from Cricklade every day and the A419 is becoming a nightmare. I get to the top of the hill and Blunsdon and if it’s not queueing there, then it backs up a short distance further on.
And this is before they close the road at Greenbridge for the railway bridge work to take place.
There are alternative routes, but they are likely to be clogged up too.
I can take the back roads and come through West Swindon, but I suspect the long-term roadworks at Bruce Street Bridges are having an impact on traffic flow there.
Despite the arguments for doing all the roadworks in one go, I think this will just clog the roads up for several weeks to come. Who will want to come Christmas shopping here with all those roadworks? I feel concerned for the traders, both in the town centre and in the out of town shops.
