Readers should be aware if buying or selling a property of the awful ‘game’ played by unscrupulous people called gazundering.
This is where the purchaser waits til the eleventh hour (just prior to exchange of contracts), then demands a substantial drop in the agreed price or no deal. This has happened to my sister, a very moral nurse at GWH, who would not stoop to this level. The whole chain has now collapsed, with so many people disappointed, bitter and angry. Her solicitor said it was the second such case that morning. Surveys have been paid for by all and solicitors’ bills will be following. Please don’t agree to these gazunderers’ demands, then it would stop! My sister’s purchaser has moved on to another seller now and the process will happen again.
We have written to our MP to try and change the law so these people at least pay costs if the chain collapses, and would urge other people affected to do the same. This could be a battle, as the unscrupulous person in our situation happens to be a lawyer.
