As we all carry on regardless, let us ponder on our heritage as we approach our annual festival of Christmas.

We celebrate the birth of the greatest person to appear on our planet.

As I walk my little Westie round my area during these dark and inclement winter nights, it cheers me up no end to see the bright lights on windows and gardens, trees and bushes covered in flickering lights against the darkness of a harsh British winter.

When I get home it is enjoyable to come into my family home and see our modest decorations and our Christmas tree from the darkness outside.

Perhaps we should all reflect on the words of the Bible: “But I tell you who hear me.

“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.”

It would be a better world if we all heeded that sound advice.

Anyway may I conclude with wishing all the staff at the Advertiser and all the contributors to the letter pages, a merry Christmas?

However, I must resort to my heritage. A good Hogmanay, sorry New Year, to you all and I cannot wait for Rabbie Burns night.
