The chairman and manager of Swindon Town Football Club are always complaining that people do not go and watch the team play.

The answer to their problem is simple.

I wonder if they would be interested to know why I – as a very long-term supporter of the Town – have now decided not to go any more.

There are three main reasons: One: the cost of admission is just too high.

Two: I can stay at home in the warm and not worry about car parking and traffic jams, and listen to full match commentary of every game free on BBC local radio. They do a pretty good job but do lack the constructive criticism that is due from time to time. Maybe this is on the orders of the club!

Three: I am starting to lose interest.

I always relied on the Swindon Advertiser to provide all the important back ground information on the club and not just be subjected to club hand outs.

But now the paper has been banned from attending press conferences and interviewing players by a club who are obviously not supporters of freedom of speech. This means an important supply of club information has been cut off, which results in a lack of interest.

To ban your paper because they do not toe the line like the radio and only print what the club wants is quite pathetic and shows a complete lack of understanding on what is happening throughout the world at the moment. Je Suis Charlie!
