Before everyone who has read Mr Tony Hillier’s letter (January 26) rushes off to join the Green Party – just be aware of what you are letting yourselves in for.

The Green manifesto was recently published and contains some frightening policies.

Lowering levels of trade and a return to subsistance agriculture. Scrapping Trident and replacing our army with a ‘home’ defence force.

Decriminalise growing and selling cannabis. Possession of class A and B drugs for personal use permitted. Prostitution and sex industry laws axed.

Jail sentences scrapped for many offences, and only used if there is a “substantial” risk of a further grave crime. Prisoners to get the vote.

Abolition of border controls – more support for asylum seekers and foreign spouses.

Economic measures to discourage eating of meat. Factory farming and whips in horse racing banned.

These are just some of the manifesto offerings from loony leader Natalie Bennett (l thought the last one loony enough). She also says: “It shouldn’t be a crime to join lS or al Qaeda.”

The national press call it a ‘manifesto of madness’.

Can any rational-minded person take this bunch of tree-huggers seriously enough to waste a vote for them?

Sure, they will pick up a handful – but nothing to make a difference – people would struggle to differentiate them from the Monster Raving Loony Party.
