I was very upset and sad when I watched the news about an elderly and infirm lady who was being moved from the care home that she was living in because the fees were raised and the council could not, or would not pay the extra cost.

After living possibly for a number of years in the same home and having made friends there, it must be very frightening to be told that you have to move and possibly have no say in the matter.

I know the Government are greatly in favour of keeping families together where possible, but space, finance and numbers sometimes make it difficult.

My daughter and I talked about this situation 18 months ago and decided that we would apply for planning permission to build a small annexe for me in her large garden.

The plans were drawn up, sent in and after a long drawn-out process were refused, also the appeal.

We are sending in slightly changed plans, but this does not say much for the council’s attitude towards the Government’s initiative.

It would be interesting to read what other people in the same situation have to say about it.
