I believe your correspondent Mr Reynolds may have been enjoying the mainstream press’ recent, rather over-excited interpretation of the Green Party’s policies, from his words here about ‘membership of ISIS’ and our alleged views on that.

However, the actual policy documents are much less sensational and far more sensible when one looks at the matter clearly.

The Green Party believes people should be tried under law for what they themselves have actually done, not for whom they associate with.

There are, and have long been, laws in place to prosecute those who plan and carry out atrocities. That’s as it should be.

However, we may not all have exactly the same views on what constitutes a terrorist organisation.

After all, the Met consider Green peer Jenny Jones to be a domestic extremist for taking part in mass cycling events, it appears.

We have seen anti-terrorist legislation against Occupy protesters, anti-austerity protesters and those gathering to try to save local facilities such as hospitals.

If we can be treated as terrorists, not because we have caused or planned to cause fear and destruction, but because we might disagree with the Government or know people who do, then we should all be very afraid indeed.

Or of course we could take steps in May at the ballot box to bring about a saner state of affairs.
