Chris Humphreys’ letter demonstrates that some can swallow any nonsense if it is served up with enough racism.

First he shows he really has his finger on the pulse by saying the French Prime Minister is Francois Fillon. He hasn’t been since 2012.

He also seems to have been taken in by an internet hoax. Exactly the same speech has been supposedly made by a couple of Australian PMs.

But more important than laughing at Mr Humphrey’s credulity is the poor grasp of reality about France displayed.

The quoted speech says French culture has been about fighting for freedom.

No mention then of French behaviour in the Algerian war of independence.

As well as massive indiscriminate torture and murder in Algeria it included concentration camps, torture and lynching in France.

The cover up of the police attack on a peaceful demonstration in Paris in 1961, where they killed between 70 and 200, still persists today.

A total of 10,000 were rounded up in sports stadiums and many were tortured.

France has no space for free expression on this. No mention is made of the rebuilding of post war France by low paid Algerian immigrants.

We are not told if the fight for freedom includes the genocide in Rwanda which has the sticky fingerprints of the French state on it.

By the way re T Reynolds’ question about terrorists reading the Quran with an open mind; does Mr Reynolds think the Catholic priests who took part in the Rwanda genocide read the Bible in the same way?
