I know that bureaucracy is a necessary part of local government processes but sometimes it really is the ‘stuff of nonsense’, and I suggest the shilly shallying which has led to the delays in building the West Swindon skate park (Adver, March 2) reflects badly on all parties, who have simply shuffled their feet concerning this matter.

Let us put the building of this facility into perspective. It is a £60k project and a site behind the Spectrum building has been chosen and approved for the development – what could possibly be holding up work starting.

Allegedly the company involved with building the site are still haggling about the cost; why? The budget is £60,000. Can they provide a facility for that amount or can’t they, and if they can’t then why did the people behind the scheme suggest that £60k would cover the costs?

Now let us consider a ‘slightly’ larger project: the building of a super-size distribution centre at G Park. Transport company TNT has signed a contract for a multi-million-pound facility which will be completed within 24 weeks.

Kevin Fisher, chairman of the Shaw Residents’ Association, is previously quoted as saying: “The skate park just needs to be built and this has been going on for way too long.” How right he is.
