We have both read the exchange of letters between Ella March and Bill Williams and give our support to Ella.
Bill Williams wrote a letter in which Ella considered was sexist and to which she had the right of reply. Bill found her reply to be insulting and caused upset to his family.
As readers of the letter pages will know, Bill is a vociferous supporter of UKIP, the party that likes to ‘say it as it is’ then use free speech as a defence.
Bill writes many letters condemning and scapegoating migrants. In one of his recent letters he labelled some as ‘criminal scum’. Nice words, Bill.
It appears he can write what he wants (has he ever thought that his letters may insult or cause upset to a family or individual?) but the Adver readers, in this case Ella March, has no right of reply. To ‘say it as it is’ is fine, so long as it reflects the views of UKIP. Otherwise keep your pen in its case and write nothing.
We seem to recall Bill Williams is not the only UKIP supporter who has had his feelings ‘hurt’ by letters in the Adver. Bill said Ella should show respect for the elderly. Maybe Bill should show respect for the younger generation, particularly those like Ella who oppose his views.
Maybe Bill Williams is one of those people who think that the younger generation should have no voice in society and they should be seen and not heard.
We don’t know Ella March but it is most refreshing to hear and read the views of someone as young as Ella.
