There is a desperate shortage of houses to rent and buy in Britain today. House prices keep rising.
This is not fair to the younger generation. These very high prices are putting the chance of ever buying a home beyond the reach of young people.
This is bad for the British working class.
We need a cross-party consensus on the very serious problem of providing homes to rent and buy for the next generation.
A quarter of a million houses need to be built every year in order to match the annual growth in demand.
A decent place to live is the basic requirement for all young families.
Young people are the flower of the nation and we need to help them to get a good start in life.
