The Great Western Hospital seems to be in crisis. With 141 non-emergency operations being cancelled in January, there is clearly an urgent problem that needs sorting out.
The simple truth of the matter is that the GWH is too small.
We must have a lot more beds and putting up tents in the car park is not the long term solution. The smooth running of the GWH is fundamental to the success of Swindon as an important commercial centre. We are going to have to dig deep into our pockets and build a new extension to the GWH.
There is no alternative. The GWH must have a lot more beds if it is to cope with the rapidly rising demand over the next few years.
