I SOMETIMES do not believe what I read. I have no sympathy with people who dabble in drugs. It causes so much misery and for a couple of drug dealers to be fined £1 each in Swindon is a bit of a joke.

Then I read about a case in another part of the country; two youths each received a ten-month jail sentence for cutting a teenage girl’s hair off at a party while she slept.

I’m not trivialising what they did, but I think the punishment is a little harsh.

A few brave girls volunteer to have their hair shaved off for charity, so couldn’t these boys be made to pay the victim compensation, or perhaps ordered to make a considerable donation to a charity of this young girl’s choice?

It’s possible I am desensitized at the mention of hair. In my early years as a barber, many times I was accused by the customer of cutting hair shorter than they requested. Fortunately for me no legal action ensued.
