RE "STOP preaching to me" of June 16 from Chris Gleed. I am confused by his "I don’t believe in the scriptures or what they say because I haven’t read them".

Excuse me, but how can you reach a conclusion about scriptures without ever having read them? Do you apply similar principles to other things in your life? He is, he says "A Christian in the informal sense of the word which can include many references like kind, generous, decent, etc". Who judges? You? What you are trying to say is that you follow the Christian ethos but not the faith, which is neither here nor there.

It reminds me of the actress Sophia Loren who several years ago announced she had "done nothing wrong in her life" so therefore concluded she had never sinned and would indeed be entering the kingdom one day. The Bible has an answer to this: "All of us become like someone who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags." (Isaiah: 64:6).

As for "Feel free to leave" from Bill Williams of June 23, he comments: “I watched her passing by in London in her carriage on her diamond jubilee surrounded by hundreds of thousands of cheering supporters in 2012”.

What the misogynist Bill Williams omits to mention is that the vast majority were women and children, with a sprinkling of men.

His last paragraph, advising those who are unhappy with a monarchy to leave these shores, surely reflects his erudite learning?

By his logic, if one doesn’t wish to live under a Tory government then depart the country, and under a Labour government too.
