QUELLE surprise! Welshman Mark Sampson leads England to third place in the Women’s Football World Cup. Mark must surely be named Coach of the Year in Sports Personality 2015. England, resplendent in Welsh red, beat eight-time European champions Germany for the first time ever in 21 matches. England beat Norway, then the hosts Canada, before coming unstuck against Japan. After the Hammer Horror last minute own goal catastrophe England proved their mettle by battling to beat Germany. In essence this was as good as winning the World Cup!
Unfortunately, women’s football is undervalued. What was Gary Lineker doing cosying up to Judy Murray at Wimbledon? Gary should have been in Canada supporting England.
