SO, it’s official. It must be so if the former Governor of the Bank of England and the Head of the IMF say so. The financial crisis that engulfed the world from 2008 was just that. Unfortunately, the Conservative Party in this country saw this as an opportunity to inflict electoral damage on the Labour Party which they did to their advantage in 2010 and 2015, even though they knew it was less than the whole truth to call the resulting recession Labour’s which the town MPs were keen to do. But hey, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

A similar representation is about to be perpetrated on us regarding the number of MPs. We are being fed the line that to reduce the cost of democracy the number is be cut by 50 to 600. Why that number one asks? Hidden away is the research that shows that cutting back on MPs will have a grossly disproportionate effect on Labour MPs. Some of their own party will be sacrificed as collateral damage, but the net result will be to give the Tories an advantage at the next election.

I understand there are to be a large number of peers created in the so-called dissolution honours list soon. So the cost of democracy will increase. This seems to have been conveniently forgotten by our MPs and the Government. Once again the truth is the victim in this charade the Tories call ‘openness’.

With five more years in power I do feel the Tories will try to deal with the electorate according to the mushroom method of management. Maybe Jeremy Corbyn is correct after all.
