IT’S BEEN a long time since I’ve written to the Advertiser and it’s not often that I agree with J Adams.
I support his religious views but not his views on the royal family or some of his views on the unions.
I did not support Red Robbo from Longbridge in the early years of industrial unrest at British Leyland, I worked at Swindon BL at the time.
Jeff has not said anything about BL but I support him one hundred 100 per cent in his comments on the role of the unions of Margaret Thatcher vs Scargill.
I remember reading the Daily Telegraph just before the miners’ strike, and the column written by Peregrine Worsethorne predicted that if the miners failed in their bid against Thatcher then the working class would pay a heavy price.
As he said, “chop off the dragon’s head of the NUM and all the other unions would fall apart, destroying the standard of living for all working classes including other non union workers whether butcher, baker or candle stick maker.”
