MY MP Justin Tomlinson says he is passionate about sport, but he ought to hang his head in shame about football facilities in the town.
His Tory cronies are basically doing a cost-cutting exercise across the borough on sports pitches.
As an old footballer I’ve noticed good pitches disappear (remember Drakes Way?) We are left with fragmented football pitches across town full of dog mess and dressing rooms you couldn’t swing a cat in and that you sometimes have to share.
I also now know the groundsman at weekends are being stopped. It means clubs and managers have to put up their own nets and corner flags and also clean up their own dressing rooms.
Calne has Beaversbrook, Chippenham has Stanley Park - brilliant up-to-date facilities.
It’s hard enough to get managers and helpers to run clubs without putting extra hurdles in their way.
And will the pitch prices be reduced? No chance.
At the next election vote these Tories off the council if you play or love football in this town.
