BARRIE Hudson’s Remember When column,‘Look who dropped by to stop the war’ of 21 September, had me reaching for my scrapbooks which contain correspondence from quite a number of MPs, including Swindon South MP Julia Drown, who you correctly reported supported the war in Iraq.

My brother and I attended many anti-war events held across various venues in Swindon, including Jeremy Corbyn’s speech at the Pilgrim Centre.

During the build-up to the Iraq war, and a number of times during the war, I wrote to Julia Drown expressing my concern at going to war and the consequences that can bring. In her replies she wrote that Saddam Hussein was a bad man and Iraq and the world would be a better place without him.

In a letter of 27 November 2008, she stated that the war in Iraq was worth fighting and the war had seen improvements across the country.

Thirteen years on and ISIS are running amok which has seen thousands of Iraqis slaughtered and many more become refugees.

I wonder if Julia still thinks the war was worth fighting.
