HATE Crime Awareness Week commences on Monday, October 12. The need for this engenders an appalling, cruel and unacceptable situation that quantifies man’s inhumanity to man.
Robert Buckland’s column on September 30 is a wake-up call for this dreadful situation to be reversed.
It was truly shocking to read in Robert’s column that the Crime Survey for England and Wales estimated that 62,000 disability motivated hate crimes were committed in 2013 and 2014, but only a couple of thousand were actually dealt with in the courts.
Whatever our beliefs/doctrines, the absolute prerogative is the need for respect and tender loving care towards our fellow beings.
As Robert wrote: “There is a lack of understanding within society about the nature and scale of disability hate.
"As disability takes many different forms, so do offences that are motivated by hostility to people who are disabled.”
Let us all support to our MPs and other government ministers who are meeting in October to help erase the situation and create a happier climate that engenders love, caring and respect for us all.
