I REFER to the article, “Should West Swindon, Central Swindon, Old Town, Lawn, Walcot, the Parks, Eldene and Liden become parishes?”
You must look beyond what is being proposed here.
Swindon (Chaos is our Business) Borough Council want control but not hold any accountability for their actions.
They are manifestly failing to maintain the town with road repairs, gully sweeping and cleaning, street sweeping, drain cleaning, hit and miss grass cutting, litter clearance, graffiti removal and a whole lot more, so why not pass this on to someone else who can then pay for it and accept the blame when it is not done.
This will be a stealth tax in all but name with councillors having nothing to talk about, so why not close down the council chamber and make an elected cabinet run the town?
After all they need to do something to curtail the £400,000 a week they are borrowing which will escalate our debt to nearly £300 million by April 2018.
We were informed at the meeting that this is to be discussed at council next Thursday but as the Conservatives run this town and have a big majority, consider this a done deal and will therefore be imposed irrespective of the wishes of the electorate.
The only question that still remains is how much of a disaster can be created as a consequence of this.
Irrespective of the result, it will, of course, be acclaimed as another successful Conservative money-saving policy decision.
Aren’t we lucky to have them?
