THE closure of the bridge over the railway in Greenbridge is creating chaos on the roads in Swindon.

The cost of electrification of the Great Western Railway has been enormous and especially the cost of making the tunnels deeper to make room for overhead power cables.

Electrification will be of no value to consumers. There is no suggestion that trains will be cheaper to use or more reliable.

Diesel trains have served the West Country very well for years. Changing over to electric trains is a terrible waste of money with absolutely no advantage to the passengers using the trains every day.
