I OPENED the Advertiser on November 19 and a light bulb pinged above my head with a thought of hold on a cotton picking minute... On page 43 a piece by Matthew Edwards on Speedway season ticket sales saying if you buy them before December 31 you will save a whole £15 and you will receive a text if a meeting is called off due to bad weather but no money refunded if rained off. (Strange to pay out for something you’re not going to watch.) On the other hand, there may not even be a stadium at Blunsdon – no one since my last letter was printed has actually come out and said 100 per cent that there will be a new stadium built.

Seems to me it’s one of those situations where you have everyone bigging themselves up at the beginning, getting loads of press written and lots of luvvie photographs printed, knowing full well it will not happen; thinking, ‘if we just stall it long enough’ the people will after a couple of years just forget all about the stadium ever being there.

Will someone involved, be it the local MP, the developers, SBC or the stadium owners, please man up and give a yes or no – or do we go the same way as Oxford and all the other speedway and greyhound tracks around the country, all pulled down to build more houses on?
