IS Wiltshire Council’s recycling strategy in Devizes going in the wrong direction? Reducing the number of days the centre is open may save a small amount of money but at what true cost?
Whenever you want to go, it’s shut. Or there are biblical queues trying to get in when you arrive. All this increases fly-tipping and pressure on household rubbish collection.
Now there’s a bureaucratic permit system for small vans which will cost to administrate. So, huge inconvenience to council tax payers and costs are simply distributed elsewhere.
All this from the same local authority which has agreed to new large housing estates despite clear local opposition and an already over-polluted and gridlocked town centre at peak times.
Surely any council should be doing what it can to help its people protect the environment? Not here it seems.
