MP votes for war

IN HIS column on August 2 MP Robert Buckland informs us that he attended the service at the cenotaph in Swindon centre to remember all those gallant people who fought and died in the battle of Passchendaele in 1917.

Looking beyond his appearance at the remembrance service, it is my belief Robert Buckland is a warmonger.

Since being elected as MP for South Swindon in 2010, he has consistently voted for UK military action in Afghanistan, Libya and Syria.

He also sees no harm in the Government’s continuing sale of arms to Saudi Arabia, one of the most brutal regimes in the world, whose bombardment of Yemen has resulted in thousands of deaths of adults and children, thousands of displaced people, more than a million malnourished children and thousands suffering and dying from cholera.

I hope when Robert Buckland is at this year’s remembrance service he will not only remember those who have died while serving in the UK military but also all those who have suffered the dire consequences of his voting for war over the last seven years.

Here are my questions

This reply is compiled as I write, no memory recall, so Mark and Martin Webb can rest assured it is what it is, unlike theirs.

I posed the questions about the country and how cuts, austerity measures were placed on people, which Mark in his letter, was complaining about.

I then asked if the cuts were so bad, why the personal allowance has gone up from £5,500, to £11,600, and why Labour in its 13 years in office never put up the allowance.

I also asked why the Shadow Chancellor was telling people to have a general strike, to overcome the failure to win the General Election. And I asked if that was now Labour policy.

Of course, no answers were given and then I made the comments about the migrants in the boats, the millions let in by Labour’s open door.

It was a bit silly really to ask this, is as it seems answers are not forthcoming. When in doubt, just throw back replies that just criticise the writer. I won’t hold my breath for an answer to the initial two questions.

Let EU buy our fish

MICHAEL Gove has confirmed that some foreign trawlers will still have access to UK waters after Brexit.

He says that British fishermen would not have the capacity to land all the fish in British territorial waters.

This may well be true but why not let the cod stocks rebuild for a few years while we are waiting for new British ships to be built?

This could be a wonderful bonanza for the British fishing industry. If the EU want our fish let them buy it from us.

The financial boost from additional fish sales would go a long way to correcting Britain’s huge trade deficit with the EU.
