I AM writing in response to P Strange’s letter of February 5 which referred to an interview with Karen Garlick, the nurse who heads our Prospect@Home service, in a Swindon Advertiser article on January 29.
In the letter P Strange said they were dismayed at Karen’s unprofessional comments expressing Prospect’s superiority over Marie Curie. Having re-read the original article, I am very surprised by this response.
During her conversation with reporter Emma Streatfield, Karen was asked where Prospect@Home differs from other end of life care providers and she replied by saying we can respond more swiftly to a crisis situation in a patient’s care than others, including Marie Curie, are able to. This wasn’t a criticism of Marie Curie, an organisation who we are pleased to work in close partnership with. It’s simply an accurate statement of a key difference in how we operate.
It is regrettable that P Strange has interpreted Karen’s comments as critical of the work Marie Curie Cancer Care does. This was unintentional, and detracts from the reality that our relationship with Marie Curie, and indeed other care providers, has been strengthened through our partnership in the delivery of patient care in our community.
