I WAS sorry to read in your report in the Advertiser of Friday, March 5, that the Octagon Restaurant may be demolished to make way for a new redevelopment.
It is a delightful place with friendly staff and delicious food and the attractive design of the building enhances its charm. It would be a great loss to that particular part of the town were it to be destroyed especially as it is so handy for the buses.
I do not understand why the bus station has to be demolished as this building itself is 25 years old and is still relatively new and modern. I remember that a lot of money and labour went into its construction at that time and it all seems such a waste with this new scheme being proposed.
Perhaps those responsible for the redevelopment may appreciate and respect the popularity and pleasure of the Octagon Restaurant and accommodate it in the reconstruction, or perhaps allow it to be rebuilt and even expanded on the site since it provides such a useful service for bus and coach passengers.
