Letter from Hannah David

11:00am Thursday 18th March 2010

SINCE the beginning of this year, representatives of UKIP have been writing letters in to the Swindon Advertiser trying to elaborate on what they currently think of Britain and how they think Britain should do better in the future.

Their letter campaign didn't start well, back on January 5, with the UKIP Candidate for North Swindon calling for Britain to become more like China, a country that slaughters its citizens who disagree with the dictatorship that they live in (I'm thinking Tiananmen Square in 1989), in order to be tough on crime and their letters have not got any better since.

My negative opinions of UKIP were only reinforced recently when their former party leader and parliamentary candidate, Nigel Farage, called a man a damp rag and stated that Belgium was a non-country.

When it comes to protest-vote political parties, who have come in to being after being particular enthused by one particular issue, voters need to ask that party, what is the next 10 words after your initial 10, before they decide to vote for them. With UKIP it appears to be slurs, generalisations and calls for authoritarianism.

My advice to Swindon's UKIP representatives is that you stop this letter campaign, because it is only making your local electoral prospects worse.
