M J WARNER’S letter (SA, July 15) brought back many memories for me.

I knew several airmen of the Polish famous 303 Squadron, such brave and daring men. I remember the victory rolls on their return from the Battle of Britain encounters.

My thoughts also returned to watching the film Dangerous Moonlight with one of the airmen whose home was in Warsaw, how devastated he was during the bombing and scenes of destruction.

Britain was for them ‘the island of last hope’ so you may well imagine how I felt on viewing the TV programme Their Finest Hour to learn that those airmen who wished to remain and make their home in Britain were unable to do so.
