Ever since watching Grand Designs for the first time, I have been a fan of Kevin McCloud's TV programme and there can be no doubt that his development, The Triangle, looks stunning from the outside.
One of the residents would have to say if the houses are energy efficient and comfortable to live in as I personally have never visited them and am in no position to comment.
Being built on a brownfield site and largely from renewable resources, there can be no doubt of their green credentials either.
However, he now plans to build a huge estate on the old Pickards Field allotment site and adjacent parkland and no matter how renewable the materials he uses or how low the carbon footprint of the development, this development cannot be in any way considered green, as it will use public parkland and a large greenfield site.
Although his company has said it will consult local people, it has not promised to amend any plans due to opposition. It is the same as saying, “ before we hang you, you will have a fair trial.”
I am afraid this is a done deal with the council, in much the same way as the Croft school farrago.
